Nagarjuna Akkineni

Biography

Akkineni Nagarjuna is an Indian actor, film producer, and television presenter who predominantly works in Telugu cinema, alongside Hindi and Tamil films. Born on August 29, 1959, in Madras (present-day Chennai), Tamil Nadu, he is the son of legendary Telugu actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR). He completed his degree in mechanical engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, followed by higher studies in the United States, before transitioning into full-time filmmaking.

After early appearances as a child artist, he made his debut as a leading actor with *Vikram* (1986). He quickly redefined modern Telugu cinema by collaborating with emerging filmmakers on trendsetting projects, notably Mani Ratnam's romantic tragedy *Geethanjali* (1989) and Ram Gopal Varma's revolutionary crime drama *Siva* (1989), both of which achieved pan-Indian acclaim. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he delivered widely celebrated hits across diverse genres, including *Hello Brother* (1994), *Ninne Pelladata* (1996), *Annamayya* (1997), *Santosham* (2002), *Manmadhudu* (2002), *Mass* (2004), *Sri Ramadasu* (2006), *Manam* (2014), *Oopiri* (2016), and *Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva* (2022).

As an actor and producer under the prestigious Annapurna Studios banner, he has won two National Film Awards (including a Special Mention for *Annamayya* and Best Feature Film in Telugu for *Ninne Pelladata*), nine Nandi Awards, and three Filmfare Awards South. Beyond his cinematic achievements, he is also well-known as the host of several seasons of the reality show *Bigg Boss Telugu* and is actively involved in philanthropic endeavors, including co-founding the Blue Cross of Hyderabad.
