Rebana Liz John

Biography

Rebana John is an artist-filmmaker from Mumbai, India. Filmmaking became her primary medium while studying at the Srishti School of Art, Design, and Technology in Bangalore, India. Her extensive experience includes work as an assistant artist, a filmmaker, and a video team manager. She completed the Post-Graduate Program in Film/Media Art at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Germany. Her short films, which include both fiction and documentary works, The Fortunate Son (2007), Lamentations (2008), Echoes (2008), and Pasts:Paths (2017), illustrate her experimentations in direction and documentary practices, which reframe established approaches and formats. The short, Ships Outside My Window (2018), has been shown at numerous film festivals, and won the Best Student Documentary Award at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival—India‘s only independent film festival—held in Delhi.
