Ethan Johnson is a filmmaker from San Marcos, California, currently studying Film and Sociocultural Anthropology at Brigham Young University. Drawing on both disciplines, his work blends anthropological perspectives with narrative storytelling to explore culture, memory, and the complexities of human experience. His films emphasize cultural nuance and empathetic realism, inviting audiences to engage with intimate moments of connection, conflict, and reflection through layered characters and personal stories.

Johnson’s documentary CAMP FLOG GNAW (2023) examined the cultural significance of the festival’s return following the COVID-19 pandemic, while his latest narrative short, To Run A Yellow Light (2026), continues his exploration of deeply personal stories rooted in emotional and poetic realism.
