The huge variety of photography does illustrate just how much manual labour was involved as the drilling delivered nothing of note after six years of looking. It's quite a testament to their endurance and perseverance that they stick it that long, but I suppose they thought the riches were likely worth it. Success! Extensive pipeline construction over the barren terrain is required, again involving considerable manpower and that's also well demonstrated by the informative archive. Twelve years it took to get the oil from the original licences to it's scalable exploitation - just in time for the start of the Great war and an even greater demand for the petrol engine, and it's fuel. An industry feeding machines all across the world even after the war was born.
