Overview

Arne Sucksdorff’s celebrated nature film follows two brothers in rural Sweden as they witness a fox raid and secretly raise an orphaned otter. Told through an adult’s memories, it reflects on childhood, nature, and the fragile balance between wilderness and civilization. The film won the International Prize at the 1954 Cannes Film Festival.

This starts off as if from something Beatrix Potter might have written with a family of foxes trying to survive in the Swedish countryside and stay out of the way of a menacing lynx. The vixen manages to irritate the farmer, though, by helping herself to one of his chickens and so shortly thereafter there is just one cub left to make it's way.
