Alejandra, maestra de escuela (2007)

Overview

Alejandra is the teacher at the one-room schoolhouse in Vichíca, a hamlet located in the Yauyos Province in the southern highlands of Lima. After having to leave the school in the town of Achín due to crime and threats, Alejandra returns to the village where she grew up and decides to reopen the school, which had been closed some years earlier. Through Alejandra's work, we see the precarious conditions of education in the most remote parts of the country; however, we also see a person determined to overcome these adversities to provide her students with the best possible education.
