Overview
Dr. Henry Armitage, an expert in the occult, goes to the old Whateley manor in Dunwich looking for Nancy Wagner, a student who went missing the previous night. He is turned away by Wilbur, the family's insidious heir, who has plans for the young girl. But Armitage won't be deterred. Through conversations with the locals, he soon unearths the Whateleys' darkest secret — as well as a great evil.

As far as a faithful Lovecraft-adaptation goes this is not far off the mark. It uses 'psychodelic'-looking effects of its era to hide the fact that there was no way they could visualize the scary things in this story without it looking hokey, and I think it was the best choice. Dean does such a good job acting in this movie, and the rest of the cast, including a doctor in old-man makeup so that a single flashback with the same actor is possible, … read the rest.
